Client: Sunderland City Council
Location: Sunderland
Seaburn is a seaside resort and suburb of Sunderland, North East England. It describes itself as 'A city by the sea and very proud of it'.
The client, Sunderland City Council, approached Chris Brammall to design and manufacture a suite of street furniture to be located along the popular seafront at Seaburn. This included bespoke seating, planters, signage, handrails, balustrades, gateways and secondary sea defence wall.
Chris' design is very much inspired by the sea and particularly its power and movement as a natural force. The hand-forged elements were specifically designed to create a very tactile effect replicating seaweed as it twists and turns in the water. The railings mirror the movement and strength of waves crashing along the shoreline.
The pieces were manufactured using a mix of materials including steel, stainless steel, Eki timber and sea pebbles.
